The purpose of this study was to examine what factors and variables affected the health-promotion behavior of some area middle-aged women in a bid to lay the groundwork for the development of programs geared toward building up their health
The subjects in this study were 345 middle-aged women who dwelled in some area of south Gyeongsang province. After data were gathered from January 14 through February 26, 2005, t-test, ANOVA, Pearson correlation coefficient and stepwise multiple regression were used to analyze the collected data. The findings of the study were as follows: 1. As for variables affecting self-efficacy, their self-efficacy was positively related to their age(r=.133) and health state(r=.144), and health state(¥â=.173) had the greatest impact on that, followed by age(¥â=.166) and religion(¥â=.127). 2. Concerning variable affecting social support, social support given to them had a positive relationship to their health status(r=.119) and satisfaction level with married life(r=.132), but none of them exercised a significant influence on that. 3. Regarding variables influencing health-promotion behavior, their health-promotion behavior was positively tied into age(r=.179), health status(r=.165) and satisfaction level with married life(r=.154). Self-efficacy(¥â=.586) exerted the greatest influence on that, followed by satisfaction level with married life(¥â=.127) and age(¥â=.123). Those who scored higher in those regards scored better in health-promotion behavior(F=52.748**, R2=.408). Given the findings of the study, there are some suggestions: 1. Future research efforts should be directed into developing health- promotion programs to improve the self-efficacy of middle-aged women. 2. The kinds of health-promotion programs in which married couples support given to them had a positive relationship should be prepared to increase their satisfaction with married life.
